Supported file formats
PFClean reads and writes a large number of common image and movie file formats.
Image file formats
PFClean supports a large number of image file formats. However, not all image file formats are equally suited to film and video restoration - even though PFClean may be able to read and write such files.
The recommended image file formats for PFClean are:
- DPX
- OpenEXR (.exr)
- Cineon (.cin)
- JPEG 2000 (.j2k or .jp2)
Icons representing the file format will be shown for these files in the File Browser's preview player and in the Media Admin's Media type column.
For all other file types, a yellow ??? icon will be shown, indicating that the file type is not recommended for restoration work. The use of these file types may cause issues for PFClean's processing, for example, a JPEG image since the compression artefacts may break dirt detection or obscure grain. These file types can still be imported into PFClean but they should be used with caution.
Movie file Formats
PFClean supports QuickTime movie files on macOS, and also file formats provided by Media Foundation on Windows 10.
