Defining terms
PFBucketd server daemon
PFBucketd is a lightweight server daemon, designed to run as a background service to distribute entitlement tokens to workstations over your local network. The PFBucketd server daemon will run continuously on your server, has no user interface and does not require an internet connection to operate.
PFBucket desktop app
The PFBucket desktop app provides the user interface to allow you to log in to your PFBucket server and manage your entitlements.
This app should be installed on an IT administator's desktop computer that can communicate with your PFBucket server over your local network. Alternatively, you can install it on the same computer where the PFBucketd server daemon is running if you wish.
The PFBucket desktop app requires a temporary connection to The Pixel Farm's servers in order to activate and manage entitlements, download software builds, or to access online Administration Support.
Once you have finished activating or managing your entitlements, the PFBucket desktop app can be closed and no further internet connection is required.
(Please note: you do not need to install the PFBucket desktop app on every workstation where you wish to run PFTrack or PFClean. You only need to install it on one IT administrator's desktop machine to communicate with your PFBucket server).
Workstation
An operator's machine running an application such as PFTrack or PFClean, able to communicate with your PFBucket server over your local network.
Server
A machine running the PFBucketd server daemon, able to communicate over your local network with workstations, and with the computer running the PFBucket desktop app.
Entitlement Bucket
Product entitlements are organised in one or more distinct entitlement buckets.
An entitlement bucket can only be active on one PFBucket server at any time, and no two entitlement buckets can be active on a single PFBucket server at the same time.
PFHostID
The PFHostID is an automatically generated twelve-digit code that is used to uniquely identify your PFBucket server hardware and activate your entitlements.
Entitlement Token
An Entitlement Token is a small file stored on your PFBucket server. Entitlement tokens are tied to the PFHostID of your PFBucket server.
Activate
Activating an entitlement on your server will generate an entitlement token and store it on your PFBucketd server. An entitlement can only be activated on one PFBucketd server at any time.
Deactivate
Deactivating an entitlement will remove the entitlement token from your server, allowing it be activated again elsewhere.
Resync
After updating maintenance on a legacy permanent entitlement, the entitlement token on your PFBucketd server needs to be Resynced. This will update the token on the server to ensure it is up-to-date.
