PFBucketd server daemon
PFBucketd is a lightweight server daemon, designed to run as a background service to distribute entitlement tokens to workstations over your local network. The PFBucketd server daemon will run continuously on your server, has no user interface and does not require an internet connection to operate.
PFBucket desktop app
The PFBucket desktop app provides the user interface for PFBucketd. This app can be installed on a different machine to the PFBucketd server if required (for example, an IT administrator's desktop computer) provided that machine can communicate with the PFBucketd server over your local network.
The PFBucket desktop app requires a temporary connection to The Pixel Farm's servers in order to activate and manage entitlements, download software builds, or to access online Administration Support.
Once you have finished activating or managing your entitlements, the PFBucket desktop app can be closed and no further internet connection is required.
An operator's machine running an application such as PFTrack or PFClean, able to communicate over your local network with the PFBucketd server.
A machine running the PFBucketd daemon, able to communicate over your local network with workstations and with the machine running the PFBucket desktop app.
Product entitlements are organised in one or more distinct entitlement buckets.
An entitlement bucket can only be active on one PFBucketd server at any time, and no two entitlement buckets can be active on a single PFBucketd server at the same time.
A dynamic entitlement can be activated on a PFBucketd server, and used by any workstation that communicates with the server over your local network.
When an application such as PFTrack or PFClean is launched on an operator's workstation, it checks to see if a dynamic entitlement is available to use on your PFBucketd server. When the application is closed, that entitlement becomes available to use on another workstation if required.
If the PFBucketd server daemon is not being used, an application such as PFTrack or PFClean can still run on a workstation provided a static entitlement token is generated in the PFAccount Admin Hub.
Once a static entitlement token is generated, the product entitlement will be tied to a single workstation and cannot be moved elsewhere. A persistent internet connection is required to run a static entitlement on a workstation.
The HostID is an automatically generated twelve-digit code that is used to uniquely identify your PFBucketd server hardware and activate your entitlements.
An Entitlement Token is a small file stored on your PFBucketd server. Entitlement tokens are associated with the HostID of your PFBucketd server.
Activating an entitlement on your server will generate an entitlement token and store it on your PFBucketd server. An entitlement can only be activated on one PFBucketd server at any time.
Deactivating an entitlement will remove the entitlement token from your server, allowing it the entitlement be moved elsewhere.
After updating maintenance on a permanent product entitlement, or extending a flexible product entitlement, the entitlement token on your PFBucketd server needs to be Resynced. This will update the token on the server to ensure it is up-to-date.
